show off friday~~~1600 quilt

Show Off Friday

I finally finished my 1600 or Jelly Roll Race quilt top!  I didn't end up
getting an accurate time because I ended up with too many stops and starts before
I finished.  It is a fast, fun quilt to make, and I would definitely do it again : )

The jelly roll was Central Park by Kate Spain for Moda fabrics.
I haven't decided if I will machine or hand quilt it....that will
have to wait for a while!

Now it is your turn to link up something~~~~what do you have for

Show Off Friday

There are no rules for this link up party....this is just the place to show off
projects you are working on!

little quilt monday~~~pincushion

Little Quilt Monday

I made a pincushion with the black and white leaves that I posted about here.
I plan to make a few more pincushions with the leaves I have been making with
my black and white stash.  There will be more than enough for several future projects!

I used some fabric from a layer cake of Comma.  It is full of cool patterns and color ways.

I stuffed my pincushion with crushed walnut shells and finished with a button : )

Now it is your turn to link up something to

wip~~~leftover strips

I have some leftover strips from the Postage Stamp Quilt Along quilt top that I posted here.  I used a jellyroll of Botany by Moda and some Kona white.   Some of the jellyroll strips are already pieced together, so I am playing with them to see what I can come up with.

I have seen several different tutorials on how to put strip sets together and sew around the outside edge and then cut them crosswise.

I am trying different ways to see what I can come up with.  This should make an interesting quilt : )
A fun project for leftover jellyroll strips!

little quilt monday~~~hourglass mini quilt

Little Quilt Monday

I am posting Little Quilt Monday early to remind you to enter and link up your mini quilts to the Modern Mini Quilt Challenge at Ellison Lane Quilts here.  The deadline is Monday, and just in case you forgot, I am hoping this will give you enough time to put your finishing touches to your mini quilt entry!  If you don't plan to enter, you will want to go take a look at all the wonderful, creative entries....lots of inspiration.

I used gray Kona and a charm pack of Reunion by Sweetwater for Moda fabrics to make my little mini quilt.  I cut each charm into 3 inch squares to end up with 2 inch finished half square triangles.  Then I had fun pairing them up and making little hourglass blocks.

I hand stitched with red crochet thread.  I used a fat quarter of one of the Reunion fabrics for the binding.  The hourglass mini quilt finished at 15.5 X 15.5 inches.

Looks like a tic tac toe board : )
Click on pictures for a closer look.

I like the Reunion fabric line, and I just may have to use this fabric and pattern to make a picnic quilt.

wip~~~table runners

I have two table runners in the works.  One is an improv project from my curves class with Rachel at Stitched in Color, and the other is using my turning charms on point method.

The runner from Curves Camp is made with two charm packs of Kona.  I still have plenty of strips left over for another project.  The colors are very bright and cheery.  Rachel calls this project Rainbow Road.  The improv curves have turned out to be lots of fun, but it is a bit scary to make that first curvy cut : )

Click on the pictures for a better view.

The other table runner is made from a charm pack of  A Stitch in Color by Malka Dubrawsky for Moda.
I am using my method of turning charms on point.   It is also a very bright, happy project.   I am ready for Spring!

I haven't decided if I am going to add a border to either one of these, or just sandwich, hand stitch and bind.  These will be perfect to use when Spring and Summer arrive, so I better get them finished soon.

little quilt monday~~~clamshell mini quilt

Little Quilt Monday

I am having so much fun learning tips and techniques for working with curves in Curve Camp this month, and this clamshell mini quilt is one of my class projects.  The basic pattern is a machine appliquéd  pillow, and I decided to make it into a mini quilt and add some big stitch quilting.  I will not go into the process of this project, because it is Rachel's pattern and technique for the machine appliquéd clamshells.  I definitely recommend taking her class on curves next time it is offered : )

I used osnaburg cotton fabric that looks like linen.  The charm squares are Moda, but I cannot remember the name of the designer, the charms were in my stash.  edited 2-15-12.....I just figured out the charm pack is Folklorique by Fig Tree Quilts for Moda : )

I hand stitched the clamshell shape with olive green crochet thread.  After I put the binding on, I decided it was too plain, so I added more hand stitching!  This mini quilt is about 15 X 15 inches.  I have linked up to Sew Modern Monday , Fabric Tuesday, and Finish It Up Friday.

wip wednesday~~~ quilted bathmat

My first WIP is another rose bud hexagon, but this beauty is destined to be a star : )  I am going to add a few more petals to this one to make the rose star block.  This hexagon is larger than the one I am using here, making it easier to piece the smaller sections of the rose star block.

I am also working on a quilted bathmat.  The fabric squares are from a Moda Etchings charm pack and the backing will be white terry cloth.

It appears that I will have to cut the terry cloth another day : )

Judith is the winner : )  She has been contacted....

I've been sewing since I was eleven when my Dad taught me how. He was an engineer and said, "how hard can it be?" so we tackled it and I sewed all of my own clothes thru high school and even some in my working life. I am now disabled and have been quilting for the last five years. Quilting has literally saved my life.
