show off friday~~~yoga mat bag

amy butler pattern

Show Off Friday
I made a yoga mat bag using a free Amy Butler pattern

I made it with her Soul Blossoms Trailing Orchid Home decor
fabric for Rowan by Westminster Fibers.

Although you can't easily see the lining, I'll tell you what I used : )
It is a regular quilting cotton called Mini Mikes by Michael Miller fabrics
in a bright green.

The pattern was so easy to follow and I think it will be very handy
to use.  I like the pockets on the outside and the wide strap.

show off friday~~~moore love

Show Off Friday

I want to share the project that the OKCMQG is doing for those in need
after the tornadoes hit our state this week.  With two days of devastating weather,
one sunny day, and then another day of rain,  I am hoping today will
be sunny, for me, but most importantly for those who are trying to pick up the
pieces of their homes and lives in the storm hit areas of Oklahoma.

If you would like to donate a quilt to those in need we will be happy to
collect them and deliver them to those who need them : )

I am working on my block for the quilt that our guild will make.  We will hold a drawing and the
proceeds will go towards the Red Cross or the Oklahoma Regional Food Bank.

To find out more about our project, please go to the OKCMQG website here.

show off friday~~~to boston with love

Show Off Friday
I decided to make a few flags for a project that began with the
Vancouver Modern Quilt Guild.

It is a fast, easy project that gave me a chance to send something
to Boston with love from Oklahoma.

If you are interested in sending a flag there is still a little time.
Send your flags to Amy and check her blog for details...
she needs the flags by May 21st.

show off friday~~~improv mini quilt

Show Off Friday
I finally finished my improv mini quilt from my class with Heather Jones at
The Makerie Sewing Retreat in Boulder, Colorado.

Heather Jones Improv mini quilt class

It was so much fun to learn new techniques from a quilt designer!  One of the techniques that
I tried for the first time was machine stitched binding.  I always machine stitch my binding on the
right side of the quilt and then hand stitch the binding on the back.

I used Heather's tutorial to machine stitch the binding on both sides...it is a faster
way to finish a quilt, and it looks great on a modern quilt : )

Here are some pictures of my mini quilt in progress:

Here are the pictures of the finished mini quilt that measures
16 X 16 inches.

I had a wonderful time in Heather's class at The Makerie Sewing Retreat,
and I will definitely use her tutorial on
 machine stitch binding again!

show off friday~~~a retreat and a finish

Show Off Friday
I have been in Colorado at a fabulous sewing retreat.  I have so much to show and tell, but I
am not quite ready(still doing laundry : )  I did finish my mini quilt for my guild challenge!

You will have to click on the picture for a better view.  I hand stitched with
crochet thread and used a scrappy binding.

I haven't done my laundry because today was beautiful and I spent all my time playing in
my garden....so here are a few more garden pictures.

Show Off Friday~~~weaving

 Show Off Friday
I have wanted a loom for years.  After seeing Beth's blogpost about her loom and
seeing all the wonderful things that she has made,
I decided to take the plunge!

It is a cloudy day, so I am sorry for the dark picture.
But I am very happy with my first project and I know that it
is going to be great fun to use my fabric scraps this way : )

show off friday~~~roommate gifts

Show Off Friday

I had two wonderful roommates at QuiltCon and I made them a little gift
to commemorate the long week-end : )

I have been on a pincushion craze so I made them a little pincushion
that they could take to their workshops.

I embroidered a simple Oklahoma outline and filled them with
crushed walnut shells.

They measure 2.5" X 4"....the perfect size to keep in a take-along sewing kit.

show off friday~~~1600 quilt

Show Off Friday

I finally finished my 1600 or Jelly Roll Race quilt top!  I didn't end up
getting an accurate time because I ended up with too many stops and starts before
I finished.  It is a fast, fun quilt to make, and I would definitely do it again : )

The jelly roll was Central Park by Kate Spain for Moda fabrics.
I haven't decided if I will machine or hand quilt it....that will
have to wait for a while!

show off friday~~~leaves and petals

Show Off Friday

I am having fun with the Quiltsmart Printed Interfacing, making black and white
leaves and petals from my stash. (I have no connection with Quiltsmart, I am just
enjoying their product)

I am going to show you how easy it is to make these leaves  : )

You sew on the solid line and cut on the dotted line.

You make a cut in the middle of the interfacing and turn and press.

Now you use your favorite appliqué technique... first the interfacing is
ironed on to your fabric, and then it is ready for you to appliqué by machine or hand,
 whichever you prefer.

I decided to use my embroidery thread for this little project and
I like the way it is turning out.

Here is my helper, Tiger, sleeping in his tower while I stitch...
