liberty circle mini quilt #2

I made a Liberty of London mini quilt for my recent LOL swap.
This was a pattern that I had already made, but this time I think
I had a better grasp of circle making : )

You will find my first liberty circle quilt here and here.
It has always been one of my favorites!
The circular appliqué pattern is found at The Purl Bee here.

This mini finishes at 20"X20" with 20 circle appliqués.
The Liberty of London tana lawn fabric is so beautiful
that it can make a simple mini turn into something gorgeous!

I used osnaburg cotton for the background fabric and crochet thread
for the big stitches.

Darcy, my swap partner was very pleased with her mini quilt and that
makes me very happy.  I also sent along the  hexagon pincushion, coasters, and
a few other goodies to make the swap a little sweeter : )

circle mini quilt, big stitch

I should be receiving my LOL swap package soon….I am getting excited!

cross timbers quilt block

A few years ago I made an original quilt block that I call Cross Timbers, for a
Block party at Quilt Story blog that I wrote about in a post here.

This month I made the same pattern for the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension
Centennial quilt.  They provided the fabric and asked for a 12.5 inch block.

I volunteer at my county extension as a Master Gardener.  I'll get my certification in October.   I really enjoyed the classes and I have learned so much about gardening from them.  Now I volunteer to answer phones and also help with different gardening projects that the extension offers to the public.  There is always something to learn, and the people I have met there are wonderful.

Here is a picture of my Cross Timbers quilt block:

I look forward to seeing all the other quilt blocks and the final quilt or two that will be made from them!

finished baby wheel quilt

I finished the baby wheel quilt!

I decided to use the gray Bella by Moda to accent the wheel of Flea Market Fancy by
Denyse Schmidt for FreeSpirit/Westminster.  This was my final project for my

I machine quilted along the spokes of the wheel with gray thread using my walking foot attachment and it went long smoothly.

I added some hand stitching in the inner circle and also along the outer circle
using yellow crochet thread.

The binding was one of the Flea Market Fancy seed stripes fabric.
This little quilt measures 41 X 41 inches.

Click on pictures for a closer look

I like the crinkly look and feel of a quilt after it has been washed.  I do plan to make
more of these, and next time may add one more circle of hand stitching along the outer edge : )

wip~~~wheel baby quilt

I am making my last project for my Curves Camp class.  It is a Wheel quilt that will be about 40 inches square when finished.  I am auditioning different background fabrics to go with some Flea Market Fancy by Denyse Schmidt for FreeSpirit/Westminster.  It will be a baby quilt, but I don't have a baby in mind to give it to at the moment.

 Gray Bella by Moda

Egg blue Bella by Moda

Pink Bella by Moda

Kona Snow

Which one would you pick?
I am leaning toward the gray, but I honestly think they all look pretty good : )   I look forward to hearing what you think I should do!

drunkard's path potholders

I made two potholder's this week for my curves class project.  I am really enjoying learning to sew curves.  The Drunkard's Path quilt block is one that I have always wanted to make.   I let the thought of sewing curves keep me from trying to make it until now : )

Click on the pictures for a closer look.

These were both made with Insul-Bright batting.  This was much thicker than the normal cotton batting that I usually use.   I decided to machine quilt them, and I am happy with how they turned out.

The backing fabric is white linen.  I like the softness that they give to the potholders, and I also like the way the machine quilting shows up.  Yep, this was a fun project.

bunting

I am enrolled in Rachel's Curves Camp.  Each week she is going to show us techniques to use when sewing with curves, and she is also giving us some homework : )   This week one of our projects is to make curved bunting.....she is starting us out on an easy, fun project!

I chose fabric from my stash(of course).  I have a yellow sewing room so yellow was the color choice!

The fabric is from my Kaffe Fassett stash...one of my favorite designers.

As you can see, I have the bunting where I can see it when I sew....very cheery and fun!

circle of color pincushion

I finished my colorful pincushion!  I decided on a simple button and I think it was the right choice.

This pincushion is large enough to stay on the arm of a chair without falling off, and of course, will hold many pins : )

It was a fun project that will be both useful and fun to look at......Yippee for a colorful finish!  I am linking up to Fabric Tuesday at  Quilt Story and Sew Modern Monday.

finished yo-yo mini quilt

I finished the little quilt that I showed here on Little Quilt Monday.

I hand stitched with variegated crochet thread and used a scrappy binding to finish this little mini.

I backed this little quilt with some of my favorite Kaffe fabric.  I have a Little/mini quilt flickr group for fun and inspiration and you are welcome to add pictures of the little quilts you have made.  I also have a facebook page for mini quilts that is for the same reason : )

The yo-yos were so easy to make.  I plan to make some using Christmas fabric scraps, but I don't know for sure how I will use them.  They would probably look cute in a jar....hum....I like that idea : )

little quilt monday~~~yo-yo mini

Little Quilt Monday

I am working on a yo-yo mini quilt.  I got the idea from the June 2011 issue of American Patchwork & Quilting.

This was the first time that I have used the Clover yo-yo maker and I definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to make yo-yos.

I have my little quilt sandwich ready to quilt with variegated crochet thread and I hope to have it finished in a day or two : )  I used my Kaffe Fassett stash for the yo-yos and Kona black for the background.  The mini measurements before binding are 12 X 14 inches.

Little Quilt Monday

Now it is your turn to link up one of your little projects that you have finished or a WIP.  Let's inspire each other!
