nautical banners

We spent last weekend celebrating the marriage of my son… the rehearsal dinner on Friday
evening and the wedding on Saturday evening.  The charming old church is
close to a big lake in Oklahoma, so naturally, we had to have an evening cruise on the lake for the
rehearsal dinner on Friday evening.

It was great fun, with lots of Mexican food, beverages, and "stories" with many
close friends and family.  I knew there wasn't much need in decorating with the
beautiful lake surrounding us, so I just made a few banners to hang and flutter
while we were cruising around on the boat : )

I didn't get any good pics on the boat of the nautical banners, so these pics will have to do!

For dessert we had the cutest sugar cookies shaped like anchors, but did I
get any pics before they were all gone….nope : )

It was a fabulous weekend, and now I have a wonderful daughter-in-law!!

little quilt monday~~~l o v e stitches

I made another L O V E mini quilt, but this time I didn't paper piece
the letters.  I used improv piecing, and I am anxious to try and
make the entire alphabet that way!

pick stitch

The fabric is a from my AMH stash and some Robert Kaufman Essex.

My crazy pick stitching was so much fun and the linen
made it easy!  I have wanted to stitch something up like
this for a while, and this small piece was the perfect way to begin….
I will be pick stitching again ; )

This little mini measures 9" X 12".

l o v e mini quilt

I finished my L O V E mini quilt.  It is a paper piece pattern
that is found here.   I don't attempt paper piecing very often, but I had
no problem making this little gem : )

I like to work with linen and enjoyed playing with the
Radiant Orchid palette.

You know I love to quilt with the big stitch!

I am not much of a paper piecer, but I found out I can do it
when the pieces aren't very small!

paper piecing love

It isn't true that I love to paper piece, but I am paper piecing  L O V E.
I have had this free pattern for several years, and I finally decided to give it a try.

I looked through my stash for the Pantone color of the year, Radiant Orchid, and I
found some of my Amy Butler stash that I believe worked well for this project!

I made these letters the full pattern size(8.5"X11").
Next time I may try them at 50% for a smaller mini quilt.

This is a picture of my daughter before the wedding.  She remained calm and relaxed, and
I am so happy for her as she begins her new life with her husband : )

I have nothing to show you today, but I am hoping to see some fun projects from
many of you!

little quilt monday~~~pincushions

Little Quilt Monday

I had a wonderful time, Sunday afternoon.  Several close friends of mine gave a bridal shower
for my daughter.  It was lots of fun seeing my daughter so happy, and helping her
celebrate this special event in her life : )

I am getting a chance to sew, but my priorities are taking charge of what I get done.
This week-end I started making some pin cushions to go along with the lavender sachets
that I am making for the bridal party.

I am using some vintage fabric squares, linen, and some cute
yardstick fabric from Moda.

Click the pictures to see a close-up of these vintage fabrics.

These are oh, so easy to make, and a pleasure to give to my daughter's dear friends.

Although the fabric is vintage, I think the colors will be appealing to her friends.

little quilt monday~~~mother's day

Little Quilt Monday

I didn't get much sewing done this week, because I have been having some wonderful family time!

First, we celebrated my daughter's graduation.  She got her Doctor in Physical Therapy degree
from OUHSC and we are so proud of her.
Jason, Mary, me and Tom

And then of course we celebrated Mother's Day : )

We had lunch with my MIL on Saturday.

After church on Sunday, we relaxed by the pool.  Later we cooked out.

It was a fun day with my family.  I am very blessed.

I hope some of you will have little projects that will inspire us!

april in review

Here is a mosaic of my April projects.  I don't have many projects to show for April, because it was a month when family issues took priority.  Family always comes first : )
The first two are a mini quilt in honor of my step-father donated to AAQI
The Amish little quilt is a WIP
BINGO is a game being played this month led by several bloggers
The strip blocks are a WIP
The quilt is a comfort for a friend going through chemo.

finally finished

I have been working on this quilt for a while.  I finally got motivated when I decided to give a comfort quilt to a friend that is going through chemo.  It is made with some of my favorite fabrics, and I enjoyed hand stitching a larger quilt for a change.

These fabrics are from my stash, the original Amy Butler's Gypsy Caravan collection.  I don't think I am going to buy any from her new release, but I still think they are pretty!

This sweet friend is someone that I have known since grade school, but we didn't reconnect after high school graduation until a few years ago when we became Facebook friends : )  I have enjoyed the chance to reacquaint myself with lots of old friends from the past.  I am definitely a fan of Facebook.

I hand stitched this comfort quilt with lavender crochet thread, and backed it with some
 Kaffe Fassett fabric.

The quilt measurements are 42 X 62 inches.  Just right for a lap quilt.

I am sending prayers, hugs, and love along with this quilt.

Amanda mentioned that she will not be doing the Finish It Up link party for a while, so if there is an interest I have a link account that I would be happy to use on Friday.  Let me know if I should continue the party.  I will call it something like Friday's Finishes, if there is an interest : )
edited on May 4th~~~I am calling it Show Off Friday and I hope to see you there!
