little quilt monday~~~finished baby quilts

Little Quilt Monday

I finished two more baby quilts to take to South Africa in late July.
I ended up finishing them without a binding.

Click on the picture for a closer look.

I finally decided if I was going to have them ready in time,
that the no binding technique would not only be faster, but also an appropriate method for a baby quilt.

The black and white baby quilt is 29 X 40 inches
and the star baby quilt is 29 X 36 inches.

I have 3 baby quilts finished for my trip to Africa, and a few more ready to be machine quilted.
As much as I enjoy hand stitched binding, I think that this will be
a quicker and more practical way to finish these baby quilts.

What do you think about quilts without binding?

Now it is your turn to link up something to

Little Quilt Monday

1.  This link-up party is for any small project.  For example, mini quilts, doll quilts, baby quilts, place mats, mug rugs, purses,
wall quilts, table runners, etc.

2.  They can be a WIP(work-in-progress) or finished.

3.  If it is something from the past there is no need to write a new blog post, just link the one that you have already written, and please link back to my blog post.
 I have added
the code to my button if you would like to add that to your blog.

show off friday~~~shoo fly mini

Show Off Friday
I had some 3.5 inch Shoo Fly quilt blocks in my UFO pile that I decided would make
 a cute little mini quilt.
As you can tell by the fabric, they were made in the 90's.  I added two rows
of sashing and now it is ready for some hand stitching.

It is about 9.5 X 9.5 inches and will be just the right size to send
to the Alzheimer's Art Quilt Initiative.  It's country look once again
reminds me of my step-father, the farmer : )

I have also started my hand stitching on the PP mini quilt.

Now it is your turn to link up something~~~~ what do you have for

finished union jack mini

I finished my Union Jack mini quilt while I was in Colorado.
It is going to be a fun little reminder of the Queen's Diamond
Jubilee and the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

I used red crochet thread for my hand stitching.
(Click on the pictures for a closer look.)

The quilt measurements are 22 X 26 inches.  I plan to make another one
and when I do I will give a little tutorial of my process, because I know
I am not the only one that didn't want a paper pieced union jack!

I am loving this one : )

little quilt monday~~~a finish and a flimsy

Little Quilt Monday

I finished my Disappearing 16 Patch mini quilt and I have my
Prairie Points mini quilt ready for hand stitching!

First I will show you my finished mini quilt.
The hand stitching is with neutral crochet thread and the binding is scrappy solids.

The mini quilt measurements are 18 X 18 inches.

Now for my Prairie Points mini quilt flimsy.  The fabric for the PP is Tweet Tweet
by Keiki for Moda.  The background fabric is linen.

I can't decide whether I like them facing up or down better.

I made this while in Colorado, so I will probably pick the
mountain look : )

show off friday~~~prairie points process

Show Off Friday
Here are the pictures(lots of them) of my process, while making the prairie points for my mini quilt.
I got my inspiration and guidance from McCall's Quilting,
issue July/August 2010....Get The Point, a pillow using prairie points.

I started with 3 inch fabric strips, folded in half(lengthwise) and cut in 3 inch segments.

Next I made the prairie points by folding each end to the center, toward the
unfinished edge.

I lined the PP on my cutting board, overlapping by 1 inch.

Now it is time to start sewing them to my linen.  I pinned the PP to a piece of linen and then
added a 1.5 inch strip and sewed across the top.

I lined up the next row and repeated the process.

I hope these pictures have helped you understand how easy PP can be!
I will show you my finished mini quilt using prairie points on Monday : )

little quilt monday~~~disappearing 16 patch mini

Little Quilt Monday

I have my Disappearing 16 Patch mini quilt ready to hand stitch.

I decided to add an embroidery block to this mini quilt.

The linen sashing makes the solid colors of the blocks pop!
Click on the pictures for a closer look.

I am trying to decide if I should add any more embroidery on the
outside border.  I like the variegated thread but the extra color in the center
block may be all this little mini needs.   The hand stitching will be with a
neutral crochet thread.
