blogger's quilt festival~~~scrappy trip along

I decided to enter another quilt in Amy's Blogger's Quilt Festival.
This quilt is from an Instagram quilt along called Scrappy Trip Along.
I am an active twitter and an IG user, enjoying all the inspiration that can be found there.

I made this lap size quilt with my Kaffe Fassett fabric stash.  Just like the title of one of his books,
I dream in color : )

I hand quilted this quilt with big stitches, using variegated crochet thread.
This is the thread that I used when I began big stitching years ago.
I decided if I was going to hand quilt a project, then I wanted it to be seen!
I am not a perfect stitcher, but I like the texture that it gives a quilt.

I used a scrappy binding and a favorite Kaffe Fassett print for the backing.

This was a fun quilt to make.
Although the pattern was simple, it made a lovely scrappy quilt.

Thank you for stopping by my blog.
I hope you will come back and have a look around soon.

Today is cold and dreary....a good day for stitching my neglected scrappy trip along quilt.

Now if I could just keep my cat off of my lap! : )

quilt-along fun

I finished the semester final for my Master Gardener class and I am hoping to have more
time to sew!!

I have started The Catvent Quilt-Along with Oh Fransson and I am hoping to
catch up soon.  Here are the blocks that I have made so far:

This is a fun, easy block pattern(a different one each day)
…. if you don't have time to make one each day, you might want to make just one block
….it would make a darling potholder or pouch for the cat lover in your life : )

little quilt monday~~~scrappy trip along

Little Quilt Monday

I decided to sew the twelve blocks that I have made for the scrappy trip along
and stop there.  It isn't as big as originally planned, but I am going
to add some linen negative space for colorful embroidery that will go along
with all these lovely Kaffe fabrics!

I wrote a small essay for one of The Modern Quilt Guild contests a few months
ago and although I didn't win the essay contest, I did receive this book
at the last OKCMQG meeting for entering!

I have been following Kaffe's colorful journey and buying his
fabric for years, so this is a great book to add to my library : )

I know these fabrics are not for everyone, but they do speak to me...
I also " dream in color".

Now it is your turn to link up something to

Little Quilt Monday

1.  This link-up party is for any small project.  For example, mini quilts, doll quilts, baby quilts, place mats, mug rugs,
wall quilts, table runners, etc.

2.  They can be a WIP(work-in-progress) or finished.

3.  If it is something from the past there is no need to write a new blog post, just link the one that you have already written, and, please link back to my blog post.

4.   If you are interested, you can add your pictures to my flickr group here, or join my Facebook group here.

Let's inspire each other!

scrappy trip along

I have joined the Scrappy Trip Along : )  I am using my Kaffee Fassett stash and throwing a solid into each block.  I think this is going to be a bright, happy quilt....don't you?

Here is a tutorial for the block, just in case you would like to join in on the fun!

wip~~~leftover strips

I have some leftover strips from the Postage Stamp Quilt Along quilt top that I posted here.  I used a jellyroll of Botany by Moda and some Kona white.   Some of the jellyroll strips are already pieced together, so I am playing with them to see what I can come up with.

I have seen several different tutorials on how to put strip sets together and sew around the outside edge and then cut them crosswise.

I am trying different ways to see what I can come up with.  This should make an interesting quilt : )
A fun project for leftover jellyroll strips!

a look back at 2011~~~first half

Here are a few of the projects that I worked on in the first half of 2011:

These two projects were part of the Be Mine blog tour hosted by Spun Sugar blog.

These two projects were my start with embroidery.

These five little mug rugs were so much fun, and I also began using big stitch quilting on some of them!

This is my finished postage stamp top that I hope to quilt in 2012 : )  This was part of a quilt along with Rachel at PS i quilt blog.

I also began the Farmer's Wife quilt along and participated in a few swaps.  But these were some of the finishes for the first half of 2011!

big finish on mini quilt monday

I am so happy with my finish today.  It is a block I made when I joined one of Lily's quilt alongs.  I made this dresden circle and didn't know if it would ever lay flat.  But after the big stitch quilting and binding I am happy to say it is flat and will look nice on my sewing room wall : )

I had several firsts on this Mini Quilt Monday .  I started big stitch quilting, used 505 basting spray, and I also used scrap binding.  All in all, this was a good finish!

I may decide to add more stitching to this mini quilt later, but for now I am going to just enjoy it like it is.  It was a beautiful morning to take pictures and my sweet dog, Sandy, is always nearby in case I need her help.

I have linked this blog to Quilt Story Fabric Tuesday.
