mini quilts on canvas

I have been working on a variety of projects lately.  One project has been fun and a little different for me.  I have been trying to figure out a way to frame a mini quilt, and I started playing with the idea of mounting them on canvas.  It is kind of quirky, but I kind of like it too!

I painted the heart mini canvas before I mounted it, and I like the darker canvas with the wool heart, but the unpainted canvases makes the mini quilts pop, and I like that too...decisions, decisions : )

Who knows if I will continue this, but it has been fun, and I think I will leave these mini quilts this way and either hang them on the wall or lean them on a shelf.

wool applique quilt

wool quilt

I finally finished my wool appliqué quilt that I started
several years ago!

It has been a fun project to pick up and stitch…. a few blocks at a time.

I used gold perle cotton to blanket stitch around the hearts and also to tie the
top to the flannel backing.

Here's little tip to make threading your needles easier…thread lots of needles at once.
That way when you run out of thread on one needle, the next is ready to go!

I decided the pull my threads to the back of the quilt so that the front would look smooth.

I didn't use any batting with the wool and flannel because that would have
made it very heavy.

This is a very cozy little quilt that I know will come in handy this winter.

heart~catcher

I found a darling tutorial here that was just the project
I needed on a cold, snowy day!  All I wanted to do, on Monday,
was sit by the fire, so that is exactly what I did while making
my heart~catcher : )

I am going to show you my process in pictures, but please ask questions
if you decide you want to make one of these little ditties too.  I will be
happy to give you more details if you need them.

Here goes:

Today is another snowy day……

little quilt monday~~~blast from the past

Little Quilt Monday

I have been working on an old WIP that will end up being such a warm, cozy throw
 that I am wondering why I haven't finished it sooner : )

It is recycled wool, from skirts, suits, and pants.  It was fun to buttonhole applique the
hearts  and then I lost interest.  Oh, sometimes I wonder why I lose interest and
have so many unfinished projects....does this happen to you?

Well, I am going to get this finished.  I need some black flannel for the back and
then I am going to hand quilt or maybe just tie it...and then enjoy!

Now it is your turn to link up something to

Little Quilt Monday

1.  This link-up party is for any small project.  For example, mini quilts, doll quilts, baby quilts, place mats, mug rugs,
wall quilts, table runners, etc.

2.  They can be a WIP(work-in-progress) or finished.

3.  If it is something from the past there is no need to write a new blog post, just link the one that you have already written, and, please link back to my blog post.

4.   If you are interested, you can add your pictures to my flickr group here, or join my Facebook group here.

Let's inspire each other!

friday finish

I have my first friday finish for February : )  It is a rainy morning and the pictures aren't wonderful, but the 4 hearts mini quilt is no longer a UFO!

The pink crochet thread and big stitches were just what this little quilt needed.

I used a scrappy binding, matching the color of the 4 hearts.  The strips were cut at 2 inches instead of the usual 2.5 inches, making it narrower than I would normally make for the binding of a larger quilt.

The measurements for this mini quilt are 20 X 20 inches.

It is hard to see from this photo(click on the photo for a closer look), but the pink stitches look nice against the green backing fabric.

I can now begin decorating for Valentine's Day......sweet!

stitching along

I am hand stitching my 4 hearts mini quilt and it is going well.   Except for a sore thumb....I am now wearing a thimble on my thumb and that is helping so much!

Do you wear a thimble?    I guess I will be wearing one for a while, anyway.....

I am planning to have this mini quilt finished by Friday : )
I am linking up to Fabric Tuesday and WIP Wednesday.
