friendship beads quilt

The OKCMQG displays quilts every year at the OKC Winter Quilt Show and we also have a booth to answer questions about Modern quilting.  I made a quilt with the quick curve ruler that I call "Friendship Beads."

I quilted in my go-to straight-line machine quilting and I used variegated thread to give interest and texture to the quilt.  The quilt didn't show up well on the black background of the curtains, but one of my friends said that it drew you in to see it closer and then the quilting could be appreciated : )  Aren't friends wonderful!

I used an OOP Kaffe Fassett fabric, Organic stripe in green, that I had been saving for a special quilt. I luv how it looks on the back with the quilting.

I will be taking this quilt to the lake to hang on the master bedroom wall along with my Barn Quilt
...it is so cheerful and bright!

barn quilt

I entered two quilts in the OKCMQG quilt show and my Barn Quilt made the cut : )
I have blogged about it here and here.

The OKCMQG show starts in October, and I will be writing a post
about it so you can see some of my guild friends quilts too!

If you are wondering which quilt didn't make the cut it was this one,
Garden Path.  They said the venue had limited space and there was room for only one of them.
That was fine with me, both quilts were fun to make!
I blogged about this quilt here and here.

a little pincushion distraction

Sometimes while I am working on a big project(like finishing my quilt entry for the OKCMQG show in October), I like to take a break with quick project.

Making a pincushion usually works for me : )

This was lots of fun to make, and I gave it to a friend in my guild!

banner day

The OKCMQG is having a quilt show in October.  We are gathering banners
from our members to hang from the rafters!  We have over 60 members, so if
we each make two banners, we will have a lovely display above our quilts.

I first made these little cuties for "To Boston With Love" that I posted about here.
These are the banners that I made for Boston...

The tutorial can be found here, and believe me, they are a quick project that make quite
a cheerful display : )

For the October show banners, I started with strips of colors that were chosen for us
to use, so that all of our different banners will go together well.  Our local quilt shop,
Oklahoma Quiltworks, sold bundles of fabric in our colors making it easy for people like me!

I used improv piecing by cutting the strips of fabric at different angles and this
is what I came up with for my banners.

OKCMQG banners

As one of my FB followers commented:  "It looks like they are holding hands" : )

I look forward to seeing what my guild friends come up with when
making their banners!

mqg challenge

I have entered my Michael Miller challenge for The Modern Quilt Guild.
It is a 16 X 16 inch mini quilt that I am calling "Flower Power".

The MQG sent our guild(OKCMQG) fat eighths of the fabric below for each of
us that wanted to participate.

We could make whatever we wanted, and surprise, surprise….
I made a mini quilt : )

The fabrics were fun and modern and probably not anything that I
would have chosen….that is what makes a challenge fun!

The colors were perfect for taking a picture outside!

little quilt monday~~~okcmqg bom

Little Quilt Monday

June is my month to provide a block for the OKCMQG BOM.
(Oklahoma City Modern Quilt Guild Block of the Month : )

You can find the tutorial for my block here at the

simply squares block

I think it will make an awesome pillow or make
four blocks and it will be a darling mini quilt!

I hope you will make this block, and please let me know if you do : )

Now it is your turn to link up something to

Little Quilt Monday

1.  This link-up party is for any small project.  For example, mini quilts, doll quilts, baby quilts, place mats, mug rugs,
wall quilts, table runners, etc.

2.  They can be a WIP(work-in-progress) or finished.

3.  If it is something from the past there is no need to write a new blog post, just link the one that you have already written, and, please link back to my blog post.

4.   If you are interested, you can add your pictures to my flickr group here, or join my Facebook group here.

Let's inspire each other!

show off friday~~~moore love

Show Off Friday

I want to share the project that the OKCMQG is doing for those in need
after the tornadoes hit our state this week.  With two days of devastating weather,
one sunny day, and then another day of rain,  I am hoping today will
be sunny, for me, but most importantly for those who are trying to pick up the
pieces of their homes and lives in the storm hit areas of Oklahoma.

If you would like to donate a quilt to those in need we will be happy to
collect them and deliver them to those who need them : )

I am working on my block for the quilt that our guild will make.  We will hold a drawing and the
proceeds will go towards the Red Cross or the Oklahoma Regional Food Bank.

To find out more about our project, please go to the OKCMQG website here.

Now it is your turn to link up something~~~~what do you have for

Show Off Friday

There are no rules for this link up party....this is just the place to show off
projects you are working on!
