little lap quilt--blogger's quilt festival entry

I received a special request this week from my daughter for a lap quilt.  She is a physical therapist for children at a rehabilitation hospital.  At the end of her workday, she sits at her desk to fill out the daily paperwork and her office is cold.  Like most quilters, I have a pile of quilt tops waiting in line to be finished, so I looked through the pile and I found a small one that would be perfect for her office lap quilt.

This is also my entry in the small quilt category in the Blogger's Quilt Festival Fall 2015.  Be sure and go here for lots of  beautiful quilts and inspiration.

This small top has been waiting quite a while to be finished...here is the original post that I wrote about making this quilt top from leftover strips of Botany by Moda and Kona white.

I machine quilted in straight lines and then added some of my favorite big stitches.

After adding the binding, I decided it was too plain, and I added more big stitches : )

This lap quilt measures 30"X40".
It has been washed and is now waiting to be gifted to my daughter... it'll be like I am giving her a big ole hug every time she uses it!  That must be why I quilt... I am a hugger : )

It is always so satisfying to finish a quilt.

nautical banners

We spent last weekend celebrating the marriage of my son… the rehearsal dinner on Friday
evening and the wedding on Saturday evening.  The charming old church is
close to a big lake in Oklahoma, so naturally, we had to have an evening cruise on the lake for the
rehearsal dinner on Friday evening.

It was great fun, with lots of Mexican food, beverages, and "stories" with many
close friends and family.  I knew there wasn't much need in decorating with the
beautiful lake surrounding us, so I just made a few banners to hang and flutter
while we were cruising around on the boat : )

I didn't get any good pics on the boat of the nautical banners, so these pics will have to do!

For dessert we had the cutest sugar cookies shaped like anchors, but did I
get any pics before they were all gone….nope : )

It was a fabulous weekend, and now I have a wonderful daughter-in-law!!

mint drink~~~~summertime

When I think of summer,  I think of the mint drink that my sweet mother made.

It is just a simple syrup, made with fresh lemon, orange, and mint.

You add the ginger ale, water or adult beverage of your choice!

The recipe:

2 Cups sugar
Juice of 6 lemons and 2 oranges
1 Cup of mint leaves

Cook sugar 5 minutes and cool.  Add fruit juice, pour over mint,
cover and let stand for 1 hour.
Strain in jar and store in refrigerator.
Use 1/3 Cup of syrup to glass of ginger ale or water or beverage of your choice : )

Enjoy!

stitch me up blog hop

Today I am taking part in the Stitch Me Up blog hop hosted by
Sew WE Quilt blog.

I have a limited number of embroidery stitches under my belt, but I
still find that stitching is very relaxing and satisfying.

I chose a pattern by bee tree designs to make a mug rug for my daughter.

mug rug embroidery

This project measures  7 X 8.5 inches...the perfect size for a cup of tea.

stitchery

I like to make french knots, so I had to include some in this embroidery piece : )

The fabric that I used was linen and Kitchy Kitchen by Maude Asbury for Blend fabrics.
The thread was Presencia No. 12.

I hope you will take some time to visit all the other blogs taking part in this fun blog hop.
Thank you so much, Jane and Madame Samm for organizing this for all of us!

another infinity scarf

I must admit that making infinity scarves is a bit addicting....

This scarf measures(finished) 54" X 4".
It is made with a yummy Anna Marie Horner velveteen fabric.

My daughter liked this one, so I am going to have to make one for her : )

show off friday~~~ finished lingerie bags

Show Off Friday
Whew!  After all the planning, it is finally time for the wedding : )
I wanted to show the finished lingerie bags and then I have got to run!

They measure 10 X 15 inches.  The pattern is my original, but it is
nothing special.  I do think they will be practical.  I made two compartments
so the lingerie can be separated however the girls wish.   I imagine they
will come in handy when the girls travel.

The outside is linen, and the inside is polyester satin.

Well, like I said , I better go....I need to get some sleep before the festivities begin tomorrow!
We have pedicures planned, and then the rehearsal dinner in the evening......fun stuff.
Oh, I am excited.

show off friday~~~embroidery

Show Off Friday
I have been busy getting things ready for my daughter's wedding next week!  There are still a few
gifts to make, and lots of last minute details.  I am embroidering these cute corsets on some lingerie bags that I am making for the bridal party.  When I saw this corset pattern on
Pinterest, I knew it was exactly the design that I should use.

I didn't use all the pattern details on these, but I still think they are going to
end up being pretty cute : )

little quilt monday~~~pincushions

Little Quilt Monday

I had a wonderful time, Sunday afternoon.  Several close friends of mine gave a bridal shower
for my daughter.  It was lots of fun seeing my daughter so happy, and helping her
celebrate this special event in her life : )

I am getting a chance to sew, but my priorities are taking charge of what I get done.
This week-end I started making some pin cushions to go along with the lavender sachets
that I am making for the bridal party.

I am using some vintage fabric squares, linen, and some cute
yardstick fabric from Moda.

Click the pictures to see a close-up of these vintage fabrics.

These are oh, so easy to make, and a pleasure to give to my daughter's dear friends.

Although the fabric is vintage, I think the colors will be appealing to her friends.

show off friday~~~lost and found

Show Off Friday
I am showing off an old denim and flannel rag quilt that I thought was lost.  I gave it to my son years ago, and it had disappeared.   Well, we were babysitting my daughter's dog this week-end and I was surprised to see this quilt at the bottom of the dog crate under an old comforter : )

I machine quilted lots of subliminal messages like these...
Call Home(above) and Study(below)

I  machine quilted different designs too.

I am glad this quilt was found, it will make a nice picnic quilt.
It was made with jeans and flannel shirts.  Have you ever made a rag quilt?
They are so easy and as you can see, a fun way to practice your machine quilting.

I am having so much fun with my stitching project, and I appreciate
the comments with the tips for making french knots.  They helped me a lot!
