Vintage Quilt Thursday

I am so happy that my dating fabric book arrived!  I haven't had time to use it yet, so hopefully by next week I will have a chance to research one of my vintage quilts.  

It is going to be easy to use, and thumbing through it, I have already seen some fabrics that look familiar.

As I said when I began this Thursday link up,  I am doing this as a learning experience for me.  I want to research the patterns and fabrics of my vintage quilts.  I wish they had labels, but since they don't, I will try to figure out their age and at the same time, learn something new!

wip~~~leftover strips

I have some leftover strips from the Postage Stamp Quilt Along quilt top that I posted here.  I used a jellyroll of Botany by Moda and some Kona white.   Some of the jellyroll strips are already pieced together, so I am playing with them to see what I can come up with.

I have seen several different tutorials on how to put strip sets together and sew around the outside edge and then cut them crosswise.

I am trying different ways to see what I can come up with.  This should make an interesting quilt : )

little quilt monday~~~guild swap challenge

Little Quilt Monday

I have joined the OKC Modern Quilt Guild.  At the last meeting we traded ziplock bags of fabric scraps to use to make a project for the owner of the scraps.  I decided to make several small things with my partner's pretty pink, green and brown fabric scraps.  I started with the Drunkard's Path quilt block to make another potholder like I did here.

I also made a little pincushion filled with crushed walnut shells.

The last project was a table runner using my charms on point technique.

I added solid fabric squares and the owl fabric from my stash.  I was so happy that her bag included the colorful striped fabric.  I love using striped fabric for binding.  I hand stitched with pink and green crochet thread.

 I decided on projects that I was comfortable making for this swap challenge.   I think they turned out pretty cute, and it was fun playing with someone else's fabric : )

Vintage Quilt Thursday

I have ordered a book to help me date the fabrics of my vintage quilts that I hope to have by next week.  Until then, I thought I'd show you a beautiful vintage pincushion that I bought at an antique store.  It isn't in perfect condition, but it is still very pretty.  The beads on the top are so tiny, and the little chains hanging from the sides are sort of quirky and fun.

The pincushion measurements are 6" X 2.5".

The center is missing some beads and, perhaps, that is where the pins were usually stuck!  I hope to someday find a pretty pin or two to put in the center.  However, it is still so lovely : )  The sun came out later in the day, so I took another picture to show the beads and chains sparkle.

wip~~~hand stitching rainbow trail

I have almost finished hand stitching my table runner called Rainbow Trail.  It is one of the projects from Curves Camp(Rachel called this project Rainbow Road).  I don't usually name my quilts, do you?  I guess I am not very creative when it comes to giving my quilts names : )

I am using variegated crochet thread with my hand stitching.

It is coming along and I am almost finished.  Now to decide what fabric to use for my binding.

It is so colorful!  I wish I was good at naming quilts....maybe I will start giving them names of songs from my youth.

little quilt monday~~~hourglass mini quilt

Little Quilt Monday

I am posting Little Quilt Monday early to remind you to enter and link up your mini quilts to the Modern Mini Quilt Challenge at Ellison Lane Quilts here.  The deadline is Monday, and just in case you forgot, I am hoping this will give you enough time to put your finishing touches to your mini quilt entry!  If you don't plan to enter, you will want to go take a look at all the wonderful, creative entries....lots of inspiration.

I used gray Kona and a charm pack of Reunion by Sweetwater for Moda fabrics to make my little mini quilt.  I cut each charm into 3 inch squares to end up with 2 inch finished half square triangles.  Then I had fun pairing them up and making little hourglass blocks.

I hand stitched with red crochet thread.  I used a fat quarter of one of the Reunion fabrics for the binding.  The hourglass mini quilt finished at 15.5 X 15.5 inches.

 Looks like a tic tac toe board : )

I like the Reunion fabric line, and I just may have to use this fabric and pattern to make a picnic quilt.

tangerine tango challenge~~~wonky hexagon mini quilt

I took the Tangerine Tango Challenge and entered a little mini quilt.  There are some wonderful entries in both the Quilts Challenge and the Minis Challenge.   

The rules allowed one other fabric color besides tangerine tango, and I chose fuchsia pink.  It is a very bright and bold combination.

I hand stitched with  bright pink crochet thread and used a scrappy binding.

The Wonky Hexagon mini quilt finished at 9" x 9". 

I recommend that you go and see all the other entries in the Tangerine Tango Challenge!

You will be inspired.
