little quilt monday~~~clamshell mini quilt

Little Quilt Monday

I am having so much fun learning tips and techniques for working with curves in Curve Camp this month, and this clamshell mini quilt is one of my class projects.  The basic pattern is a machine appliquéd  pillow, and I decided to make it into a mini quilt and add some big stitch quilting.  I will not go into the process of this project, because it is Rachel's pattern and technique for the machine appliquéd clamshells.  I definitely recommend taking her class on curves next time it is offered : )

I used osnaburg cotton fabric that looks like linen.  The charm squares are Moda, but I cannot remember the name of the designer, the charms were in my stash.  edited 2-15-12.....I just figured out the charm pack is Folklorique by Fig Tree Quilts for Moda : )

I hand stitched the clamshell shape with olive green crochet thread.  After I put the binding on, I decided it was too plain, so I added more hand stitching!  This mini quilt is about 15 X 15 inches.  I have linked up to Sew Modern Monday , Fabric Tuesday, and Finish It Up Friday.

Now it's your turn to link up something to

Little Quilt Monday

1.  This link-up party is for any small project.  For example, mini quilts, doll quilts, baby quilts, place mats, mug rugs,
wall quilts, table runners, etc.
2.  They can be a WIP(work-in-progress) or finished.
3.  If it is something from the past there is no need to write a new blog post, just link the one that you have already written, and, please link back to my blog post.
4.   If you are interested, you can add your pictures to my flickr group here, or join my Facebook group here.

Let's inspire each other!

bunting

I am enrolled in Rachel's Curves Camp.  Each week she is going to show us techniques to use when sewing with curves, and she is also giving us some homework : )   This week one of our projects is to make curved bunting.....she is starting us out on an easy, fun project!

I chose fabric from my stash(of course).  I have a yellow sewing room so yellow was the color choice!

The fabric is from my Kaffe Fassett stash...one of my favorite designers.

As you can see, I have the bunting where I can see it when I sew....very cheery and fun!

wip~~~~new wave quilt

My WIP(one of them : ) is the New Wave Quilt by Elizabeth Hartman of Oh, Fransson!  I have already cut out the waves, and I am now ironing the fabric that I will use for the sashing.

Once again, I am using fabric that is already in my stash, and that is a good thing!

I am linking this post to WIP Wednesday.

little quilt monday~~~vintage doily mini quilt

Little Quilt Monday

I have doilies in my linen closet that were given to me by my mother and my mother-in-law.   I never really saw either of them decorate with doilies, so I imagine they were given to them by their mothers.  I thought it would be fun to bring one out of the closet and make something with it.  Something old, given a new, modern look.  I like to think that this doily was made by my grandmother, or maybe her mother....but I honestly don't know who made it.  I just know that it is beautiful.

I cut a piece of linen 12.5 inches square and then sewed the doily onto the linen.  Knowing this little mini quilt would not be washed and would probably hang on my wall, I sewed along the edge and didn't worry about the center.  If I was going to use it as a table topper, I would use more stitches.

Next I  spray basted the batting and backing to the front and began hand stitching with off white crochet thread.  You know how I love those big stitches!

I picked out some of my favorite Liberty of London fabric for the binding, and ended up with a darling
12 X 12 inch vintage doily mini quilt.
I have linked up to Sew Modern Monday

I hope you will get some doilies out of your closet, and make one for yourself : )  I have a few more to play with too!
