antique hexagon quilt

I like to make hexagons and they seem to be very popular right now in the quilting world.  I have a wonderful hexagon quilt that my mother gave me.  I wish I knew who made it...I do know that it has been loved!

quilt as you go round 2

Here is my first block for the Quilt as you go--Round 2.  I think I will make a couple more blocks before I start the quilting process.

I am using Kaffe Fassett fabric along with center squares from Metro Cafe.  This is going to be a fun
quilt-along!

unfinished business

I have several forgotten quilt tops that I need to finish.  My hope has been to machine quilt them myself.  I am very interested in the modern quilts that I see lately, and I like the grid quilting as well as stippling.  I may get my walking foot out and give the grid quilting a try on one of these quilt tops.

I think I may need to add a border or two before they are considered finished tops, but  I have plenty of fabric for that!

Sentimental Journey

working with solid fabrics

There is a give away today on Cut To Pieces blog!  She is giving the book "City Quilts" and it is a book of projects using only solid fabrics.  I was looking through all the different colors available in Kona cotton and had a very hard time trying to find a favorite.  For now, I would like to add medium gray and slate to my stash...not necessarily my favorite colors, but colors that I would like to work with right now.
Here are a couple pictures of quilts I made years ago with solid fabric.

turning charms on point

Here are some pictures that I took while making a charm square quilt that I want to turn on point:

I started with 5 inch charm squares sewn in rows (8X12)

Then I cut a diagonal line and I sewed it to the top row as shown.

The arrows show the sewing line.

I cut another diagonal line and then sewed it to the row on the right and now the quilt charm squares are on point.  I will show this quilt again when I get it finished.  I haven't decided whether to stop now or add a couple borders.  So stay tuned : )

(Sorry about the picture placement and captions.  I am still learning how to post pictures and I have so much to learn.  That is one of the reasons that I began this blog, and that is to learn something new!)

picnic quilt

I have my picnic quilt back from the LAQ and now it is time to put on some binding.  I haven't decided on the color yet, so suggestions would be appreciated!
