pincushions

I have a board on my Pinterest of pincushions.  I discovered some that were made of small cross-stitched pieces and  that inspired me to look through my projects for something that might work, and this is what I found....made in 1988 : )  It is about 5 X 7 inches.
I cut out a pretty piece of fabric for the back.
Sewed them with right sides together, and left a small opening to turn the fabric.
I like to stuff my pincushions with crushed walnut shells(I can purchase these at my LQS) and a small amount of polyester batting or stuffing.
Stuff and then sew my opening closed.
I added some pins and now it is an official pincushion!

I have another pincushion started.  I added some embroidery in the center of this circle and I am on the lookout for a button to add to the middle.
I need to go to the LQS and stock up on more crushed walnut shells because I imagine my Pinterest board will keep inspiring me.
Do you Pinterest?

I don't Pinterest. I try to resist anything that could potentially be another time sucker! I also don't Facebook for the same reason.

Your pincushions are great though! I can't wait to see how the rainbow one with the embroidery turns out.

Great pincushions! I have a pincushion problem...I have a turtle and an elephant. I want to make a fish and a bird, still. :)

What a great way to use a cross stitch project! That other one you are working is really cool and will be quite impressive when finished. I do play around on Pinterest, what a time sucker it is! So much inspiration to be found though, I love it.

Great job on using your old cross-stitch project! My husband is teaching me recently started something, you've given me a great inspiration to use my smaller start projects!

1988, whoa?! What a great way to be able to see it each day and use it. The second one is really nice too!

Cute idea! I love that you're finishing up something from so long ago, that's great. Love your colorful pincushion-in-progress, too!

That's a neat idea on the pin cushions.

Very cute pin cushions... The embroidery reminds me of the big pile of embroidery patterns i have from my greatgrandmother and grandmother. There's a lot of samplers in them and I made my fair share of them before taking up quilting

I do pinterest. It's a horrible addiction. I really like the second circle pin cushion.

Love the idea of using up all those WIPs into pin cushions. I'm a somewhat prolific pinner, I confess o.O

I don't pinterest, or facebook, or any of those because I'm sure I would end up spending too much time on it. I love your pincushions :)

I love the embroidery on the center of your second cushion.

I'm almost terribly addicted to Pinterest. I've had to move my computer out of my sewing space so that I get some work done, hehe.

Wow, they both look great! I haven't joined in on pininterest yet, but I see it in my future!
