little quilt monday~~~hole in the barn door

Little Quilt Monday

I decided to make mini quilts for the AAQI, and I showed you the first two that I will be donating here.  Well, since then, my step-father, who had alzheimers has died.  I was going to make these in his honor, but now I will be making them to honor his memory.

He was a farmer/rancher that loved living in the country.  I chose to make the Hole in the Barn Door quilt block in green to signify  the green color of the winter wheat that he would plant each year.  He lived a very disciplined life.  He always had breakfast at 6:30, and lunch at a diner called Vivian's.  Supper depended on the time of year, sometimes brought out into the field during harvest.  He was born on the farm, and lived in that very house until after my mothers death, when he could no longer be cared for there.  He took an active part in his community and church.  Most important of all, he loved my mother, and became part of my life when I was in college.

I hand stitched this mini quilt with variegated crochet thread.  It is a random pattern going around the square,  and it reminds me of rows of crops.

The measurements are 9 X 9 inches and the backing fabric is linen.  I added corner squares, as requested by the AAQI, for ease in hanging on the wall, if desired.

I hope to get my 3 quilts registered to the AAQI and sent by the end of the week.

Now it is your turn to link up something to

Little Quilt Monday

1.  This link-up party is for any small project.  For example, mini quilts, doll quilts, baby quilts, place mats, mug rugs,
wall quilts, table runners, etc.

2.  They can be a WIP(work-in-progress) or finished.

3.  If it is something from the past there is no need to write a new blog post, just link the one that you have already written, and, please link back to my blog post.

4.   If you are interested, you can add your pictures to my flickr group here, or join my Facebook group here.

Let's inspire each other!

So sorry to hear about you step-father. He sound like he was a good man and especially good to your mother. You can't ask for more than that in life. My project this week were two small bags, not really suitable for Little Quilt Monday. I'll try next week.

Great work on a neat mini quilt! I love the details ... the green of the grass, the crop-row-like quilting, the barn-door pattern. What a great way to honor your step-dad's memory.
