mini quilts on canvas

I have been working on a variety of projects lately.  One project has been fun and a little different for me.  I have been trying to figure out a way to frame a mini quilt, and I started playing with the idea of mounting them on canvas.  It is kind of quirky, but I kind of like it too!

I painted the heart mini canvas before I mounted it, and I like the darker canvas with the wool heart, but the unpainted canvases makes the mini quilts pop, and I like that too...decisions, decisions : )

Who knows if I will continue this, but it has been fun, and I think I will leave these mini quilts this way and either hang them on the wall or lean them on a shelf.

peace~~~bias tape mini quilt

I joined the Mighty Lucky Quilting Club this year.  Once a month there is a new challenge, a different skill or technique to try, and the instructor for the month will send a PDF with the instructions for the challenge they are teaching.  This month the challenge was Shapes and Curves Using Bias Tape by Krista Fleckenstein of Spotted Stones blog.

I have made bias tape before and used it a few times for basket handles in quilt blocks, but it was definitely a fun challenge that I needed to give a try again.

Here is the design that I chose for my bias tape mini quilt:

peace sign

It was a fun little project, and I do like the peace sign!  I used a variegated thread to sew the bias tape down and it blended well with the bias tape.

I also used a variegated perle cotton thread for the big stitch quilting.  It looks great with the flax essex linen fabric and compliments the OOP Kaffe Fassett Spools in Amber fabric.

I used a very thin binding, like I often do on my mini quilts.

This was a fun project, and I am looking forward to a new challenge each month from the Mighty Lucky Quilting Club : )

little quilt monday~~~liberty of london swap mini quilt

I made a mini quilt for the Liberty of London Swap 2.
I started with hexagons and then sewed them together
into a heart.  My swap partner likes hearts, so that helped
me decide what to do with the hexagons.

I used Essex linen/cotton blend in gray for the background and
it really set off the bright colors of the hexagons.

I machine quilted on the diagonal in straight stitches and
I chose a bright LOL fabric for the binding.

My swap partner received my package this week and is pleased with her mini quilt!

I sent a few other small quilted items that I will post about later in the week.

liberty circle mini quilt #2

I made a Liberty of London mini quilt for my recent LOL swap.
This was a pattern that I had already made, but this time I think
I had a better grasp of circle making : )

You will find my first liberty circle quilt here and here.
It has always been one of my favorites!
The circular appliqué pattern is found at The Purl Bee here.

This mini finishes at 20"X20" with 20 circle appliqués.
The Liberty of London tana lawn fabric is so beautiful
that it can make a simple mini turn into something gorgeous!

I used osnaburg cotton for the background fabric and crochet thread
for the big stitches.

Darcy, my swap partner was very pleased with her mini quilt and that
makes me very happy.  I also sent along the  hexagon pincushion, coasters, and
a few other goodies to make the swap a little sweeter : )

I should be receiving my LOL swap package soon….I am getting excited!

mini quilts and clipboards

I like to display my mini quilts in my sewing room or use them
as table mats.  But one of my favorite ways to display my mini quilts
is with a clipboard.

I have a clipboard in my study beside my computer, and I use it as
an ever changing piece of art.  Sometimes it is a mini quilt.

Sometimes I clip an unfinished project.

And sometimes I clip a quilt block.

These clipboards are easy to hang…you could put them anywhere!
I love my ever changing original art : )

blogger's quilt festival~~~color curves

I am entering my mini quilt, Color Curves, this time around.

It all began like this:

While playing with my solid scraps and curve piecing I came up with this:

And from there I decided to stop and make it into a mini quilt called Color Curves.
It measures 18 inches X 20 inches.

I used my favorite big stitches and variegated thread to quilt this colorful mini quilt.

A friend of mine in the OKCMQG is taking some of our guilds small quilts to
Budapest for a show in November.  I am sending this mini quilt for a door prize!

budapest quilt show

A friend in my guild, is going to have a Modern Quilt Show in
Budapest in November.  Agnes has family there, and visits often.
She is taking small quilts that will travel easily : )

I am sending a table runner that I made several years ago.

I am also making a mini quilt for a door prize during the quilt show.
This is how it started out.

I am doing some big stitching with variegated thread.

Hope to finish this week-end!

mqg challenge

I have entered my Michael Miller challenge for The Modern Quilt Guild.
It is a 16 X 16 inch mini quilt that I am calling "Flower Power".

The MQG sent our guild(OKCMQG) fat eighths of the fabric below for each of
us that wanted to participate.

We could make whatever we wanted, and surprise, surprise….
I made a mini quilt : )

The fabrics were fun and modern and probably not anything that I
would have chosen….that is what makes a challenge fun!

The colors were perfect for taking a picture outside!
