little quilt monday~~~45

Little Quilt Monday

I am still busy getting our newly purchased house painted and ready to move in
and our old house ready for sale!

Here is a picture of the house that is for sale:

I bet you have figured out that I haven't been sewing : )
I still enjoy seeing what you have been up to, and I will get back
to sewing soon.  I can't wait to show you my sewing room in the new house.

Now it is your turn to link up something to

Little Quilt Monday

1.  This link-up party is for any small project.  For example, mini quilts, doll quilts, baby quilts, place mats, mug rugs,
wall quilts, table runners, etc.

2.  They can be a WIP(work-in-progress) or finished.

3.  If it is something from the past there is no need to write a new blog post, just link the one that you have already written, and, please link back to my blog post.

4.   If you are interested, you can add your pictures to my flickr group here, or join my Facebook group here.

Let's inspire each other!

fun memories

I always enjoy decorating for Christmas with things from the past.  They bring back good memories and joy, and feel so comfortable and sweet!  This quilt is from a swap that I participated in when I first began patchwork.  I have always liked the log-cabin quilt block and it really makes a pretty red and green quilt.

We each signed our block and added our hometown in the light side of the cabin.  Here is the block that I made for the swap.  We each made 20 log-cabin blocks.

a treasure on thursday

I have my mother's sewing box and it is a treasure : )  Not that it would mean much to anyone else, it is just full of some sweet memories.
Her crochet hooks are inside, along with several of her afghan patterns.  I especially like this one, Indian Paint Brush, that is in her handwriting.  And below is her afghan made from this pattern.

This bright tin was always near the sewing machine and filled with pins and needles and lace.  There are lots of wooden spools,  and the pin cushion we always used.
I imagine this has something to do with why I favor bright colored fabric!

Good memories.

1st edition: little quilt monday----ticker tape doll quilt

Welcome to Little Quilt Monday linky party.  I am looking forward to this challenge to try some new things in a small project and I hope I am not alone : )  You can link up(below) your mini projects that are a WIP or finished at the bottom of this post.  I am sure I will be inspired by all the little quilts that are being made and I know you will be too!

This week I decided to make a ticker tape doll quilt.  I have seen these and have always wanted to make one.  I found several tutorials for this type of quilt.  Here are a few of the tutorials that you might like to try sometime:  Crazy Mom Quilts,  Sew Take A Hike, and Stitched In Color.

I decided to add my little pieces by hand instead of machine like the tutorials.  I am happy with the way it turned out and I even like the look from the back!  The aspen leaves are from my week in Colorado.

Now it is your turn to link up your little quilts below and please, add my link to your post.  I have a button on my side bar but it is just a picture, I haven't learned how to add the box of detail below it yet.  You can add it as a picture and then link to my post if you would like to do that : )

learning to crochet

I am going to learn to crochet by taking a free class at Crochet School with Dana at Craftyminx.  I have planned to learn and I already have a box of patterns.

I have the yarn and and the hook so now I am ready to crochet!

Look at me, I have made a slip knot and have started my chain stitch : )

Oh what fun, I will need to practice this a little bit longer before I can do this:

Do you crochet?

Don't forget about linking up for Little Quilt Monday!

mini quilts

Last month(September), Faith at Fresh Lemons challenged herself to make a mini quilt each week using a new technique and had a linkup on each Monday in September.  I really enjoyed the challenge and seeing what others were making.   I ask Faith if she would mind if I continued her challenge each Monday.  She thought that would be great, so I will begin a new linkup next Monday.

Right now I am working on a button for this linkup.   This will be my first time to have a space for others to link their blogposts with a thumbnail photo!   I hope you will join me in making mini quilts and trying new techniques and colors in the process.  Some of the things that I plan to make in the future are wonky blocks, applique(both hand and machine), and paper piecing : )

I am going to call this linky party, Little Quilt Monday, because there could be projects the size of a name tag or mug rug all the way to a table topper or wall hanging.  Actually, there aren't any rules, and works in progress will be fine.  I just want us to have fun, be inspired, try new things, and visit each others blogs!

Here are the mini quilts/little quilts that I worked on in September for Mini Quilt Monday:

This is a little quilt that I am working on in October.

I am looking forward to seeing all the inspiration on Little Quilt Monday  starting next Monday, October 10th.

first sewing project

I found my first sewing project!  My sweet grandmother taught me to sew when I was about 10 years old.  This is the first thing that I made(with her help).

Can you guess what I had inside?

I don't know if little girls play jacks anymore, but I use to play all the time.

I am happy to report that the balls still bounce and I can still play jacks : )
I soon advanced to making clothes for my Barbie!

anniversary day and giveaway celebration

Today I am celebrating my first year of blogging about my quilting adventures.  This was what I said on my first blog post:

This is the beginning of a new adventure for me. I hope it will help me become a more active quilter!

I can say that I have been more active in starting quilting projects this year.  Now, as I begin my second year in blogland, I hope to finish more projects : )

As part of my celebration, I am hosting a giveaway.  I decided to have 2 winners and they will each win a charm pack.  One will be for followers only, and the other will be for anyone that comments whether you follow my blog or not.  The Moda charm packs are Summer House by Lily Ashbury and Jovial by Basic Grey.

Here are the rules:

Please comment only once and tell me which charm pack is your favorite, and if you follow my blog(new followers too :), please mention that in the same comment.  I will leave the comments open until Thursday, July 28th and I will pick my winners randomly and post the results on Friday, July 29th.

Thank you for taking the time to read my blog, and for those of you that have left me comments of encouragement this year..... double thanks.....it has been a blessing to me!

This giveaway is now closed.

challenge on design wall

I found the perfect fabric to go with my hexagon quilt challenge fabrics.  It is a cotton(linen look) fabric by French General for Moda that I had in my stash!  I forgot I had that in my linen/linen-look collection and of course, I did a little dance when I realized it was there : )  I am going to leave this on my small design wall for a few days and decide if I like the pairing of the triangles for the hexagons.  Please let me know if you see a hexagon/triangle that needs to move to another area.

Tomorrow is my 1 year blog anniversary....it kind of took me by surprise.  I will have some type of give-away on tomorrows post so I hope you will join me to celebrate my first year in blogland!

wednesday's flower

I need a lavender flower for a mug rug for my daughter so this is what I came up with : )  I also thought I'd show you my first flower, the big one!  I made it a few years ago and some day I intend to add more 30's hexagons to it.

spring in my step

This morning while helping (watching) my husband do some Spring cleaning, I took a few pictures of Spring showing up in my backyard : )  It is a beautiful day.  Oh, and my local quilt shop is having a 40% off sale on Kaffe Fassett fabric...it is a glorious day!

my first quilt

I found my first quilt on the garage floor : (  Poor thing has seen better days, it is faded and a bit worn.  I made it in the early 90's from a Leisure Arts pattern book.  I don't know if I still have that pattern book and I can't remember the name of the quilt block.  I will have to do some research because I am now curious!

If you look closely you can see all those chopped off points.  It didn't bother me then, and it really doesn't bother me now.  I am glad that I rescued this quilt, and it already looks better after I washed it.  I will mend a few seams and, although it won't be good as new, it will make a perfect picnic quilt : )

one house-many projects

A month or two ago, Beth at Love Laugh Quilt challenged quilters in our blogland neighborhood to make a 12 inch house quilt block and mail them to her.  I forgot to take a picture of mine : (  but I included cats in the windows looking out at birds in the sky, and I used some of my Kaffe Fassett fabric for the house and roof.

Beth picked the winners of all the blocks at the beginning of January and there were so many blocks sent to her that she was able to choose several winners!  She also sent each blogger/quilter that participated a small fabric house to use in any project they wanted to make, and ask us to send her a picture so we can see all the projects made from one house.

I made mine yesterday, and it is now hanging in my sewing room/studio.  I used linen and some of my stash of homespun plaids and stripes.  It is 12"X12", and is a fun reminder of all my new neighbors in blogland.  I moved into this blogland neighborhood on July 24, 2010 and it is a very inspiring, pleasant place to be : )
