bowls with borders blog hop

Today is my day to show you the bowls that I made for the Bowls With Borders Blog Hop.

(The dates for this hop are August 13 through August 28.)

First of all, I want to thank Regina for making such a fun pattern and sharing it

with those of us who are participating in the blog hop.  You can buy her pattern here.

I also want to thank the organizers, Madame Samm from Sew WE Quilt

 and Carol from Just Let Me Quilt.

Here is the mini quilt that I made using Regina's pattern for paper piecing!

Chili Bowls

This mini measures 12 X 16 inches.  It was made with shot cotton and osnaburg
 cotton fabric, along with old buttons and crochet thread.

I added a little embroidery on the chili bowls in different colors and

then I hand stitched using the same threads.

I always enjoy seeing how the stitches look on the back,

 how about you?

Little Quilt Monday

Well, after a wonderful visit to South Africa, I am back!

It was such a special place, I have so much I could tell you, but I know

that I better not try to tell you everything in one blog post : )

As you can tell by the photo above, we got to see the beautiful animals, and I took

many pictures that I will post from time to time on my blog.

I also gave some baby quilts to some special moms/babies.  

Here are a couple of them in the photos below:

I visited a school in one of the villages, and the children sang their South African

 national anthem for me.

I will tell you bits and pieces as I blog, but for now I want to

have a giveaway to show my appreciation to my followers.

OH, I do have a mini quilt to show you, but I am taking part in a blog hop called 

Bowls With Borders, and I am scheduled to show my mini tomorrow, so come

check out how I did with the paper piecing pattern tomorrow : )

Although the fabric isn't from Africa, I found some batiks that remind me

I realized that I didn't tell about my summer plans.  My daughter is getting married this summer, so we will have a small reunion at the wedding!   I also have a trip to South Africa planned, and I am making baby quilts to give while I am there   However, most of the summer will be spent here in Oklahoma,

leap day blog hop giveaway

I am having a Leap Day giveaway.....a charm pack of Folklorique by Joanna Figueroa and Lisa Quan of Fig Tree Quilts for moda.   I used this same fabric line to make my clamshell mini quilt that you can see here.  There are several other color ways  in this charm pack...I used the greens, browns and oranges for my mini, but there are also some pretty blues and reds.

He was an engineer and said, "how hard can it be?" so we tackled it and I sewed all of my own clothes thru high school and even some in my working life. I am now disabled and have been quilting for the last five years. Quilting has literally saved my life.

This is the 12 inch quilt block that I made for Lori, my swap partner at Block Swap Adventures.  She requested a pinwheel four-patch.  This was a fun block to make, I need to make more of these.  I like the contrast of the white with the printed fabric.  She ask for a vintage, country block and I think this has that vintage look : )

dimensional flying geese

I saw this post and decided to make some dimensional flying geese and then make the lazy cathedral window like Mary at The Tulip Patch.  I was pleasantly surprised at how easy they were to make.  I sewed the window down by hand, and Mary machine stitched hers.  I see another mini quilt in my future : )

de-stash 4malawi

I am joining Lilypad Quilting in a charity drive for fabric.  The Kropfs, a wonderful couple in Malawi(in southeastern Africa) work to educate, clothe, and house the many orphan children there.  They live and work among the very poor.  Mrs. Kropfs has over 900 children to sew for and this is where our de-stash of fabric can become a welcome donation that she will use to make their new clothes : )

chequer-board bag

I am thinking about making a bag from this pattern by Kaffee Fassett found in the book, Westminster Patchwork and Quilting Book Number 3.   It is a fantastic book that is full of inspiration and projects that I want to try.

I have made two bags already.  One is with some of my Liberty fabric and the other is with some Amy Butler fabric.  If you read my blog last Friday, you know these are some of my all time favorite fabrics : )

Here are the bags that I have already made:

I am going to make my next one more like the picture in the book....a chequer-board bag.  I am hoping to find enough solid fabric in my stash.  I think I have some shot cottons like were used in the book, but I don't know if I have enough, or if they are the right colors.  I think it would be nice with some linen too, but first I will look for the colors of autumn.   Won't this make a nice bag to carry around this fall?
