I received such a beautiful Bachelor's Puzzle block from Lynette for our March swap.

She also sent some notecards that she made using some of her scraps!

And here is the block that I sent to her.  She requested a Mother's Dream quilt block with autumn colors.

thunder up

We are fans of the Oklahoma City Thunder NBA basketball team.  By the way, they beat the Heat last night : )  When I found this fabric I knew what I had to do.   I made a little quilt/mug rug for my son to put on his desk at work.  He's a new lawyer, with a new office and I thought he needed something fun on his desk so here goes!   Thunder Up!

I am having a busy week, so very little sewing going on : (

spring in my step

This morning while helping (watching) my husband do some Spring cleaning, I took a few pictures of Spring showing up in my backyard : )  It is a beautiful day.  Oh, and my local quilt shop is having a 40% off sale on Kaffe Fassett fabric...it is a glorious day!

flower for a friend

I made this hexagon with March and St. Patrick's Day in mind....green : )   I used some of my vintage fabric squares...... I love those little flower prints.   This little hexagon flower is going to a blog friend along with her block.

insul bright and hydrogen peroxide

Today I was in the mood for a quick project.  I turned my little vintage creamer stitchery into a hot pad.  I used Insul Bright and discovered that it is very easy to stitch through!   I haven't stitched the vintage sugar yet, so the cup and saucer pattern hasn't been posted.  I don't know if anyone is stitching them with me or not, but I  will copy the cup and saucer on my pattern page next week.

I nearly always prick my finger with the needle at least once while stitching a project : )  I use hydrogen peroxide and a Q-tip to blot out the blood spots and it works quite well.  This tip was found somewhere here in blogland and it has saved me from ruining a project more than once!

I am considering tea dying these little hot pads when they are all finished, and then maybe I won't mind using them.  I'm afraid the white linen will be dirty in no time!

my first quilt

I found my first quilt on the garage floor : (  Poor thing has seen better days, it is faded and a bit worn.  I made it in the early 90's from a Leisure Arts pattern book.  I don't know if I still have that pattern book and I can't remember the name of the quilt block.  I will have to do some research because I am now curious!

If you look closely you can see all those chopped off points.  It didn't bother me then, and it really doesn't bother me now.  I am glad that I rescued this quilt, and it already looks better after I washed it.  I will mend a few seams and, although it won't be good as new, it will make a perfect picnic quilt : )

moda quick reference guide/swap block

I found a great blog, Moda the Cutting Table, and they have several printable reference guides that I think are both interesting and also helpful : )   They are The ABC's of Moda Pre-cuts,  How to Slice a Layer Cake,  Yardage Equivalents,  Quilt Blocks on Point,  and a Quick Reference Guide for figuring the yardage for a quilt back.   I printed them all!

Here is a picture of the block I made for my February swap partner for Block Swap Adventure.  Margaret ask for a blue, geometric block.  I used some of my favorite blue fabrics : )
